House rules

Every day, a large number of sick people are treated in our hospital. This coexistence is characterised by respect and mutual consideration. We do not tolerate verbal, physical or sexual violence and harassment towards our employees, patients and all other persons in the hospital.

Any restrictions are therefore for your own good and that of your fellow patients and visitors, as well as to ensure the smooth running of our staff's work processes. Against this background, we ask you to comply with our house rules.

A. General

  1. The house rules apply to patients and visitors within the hospital.
  2. The operational instructions of the doctors, nursing staff and hospital administration must be followed.
  3. For reasons of hospital hygiene, the utmost cleanliness must be maintained in the building, in the rooms and with regard to furnishings. Animals are not permitted anywhere in the hospital. The only exception to this rule is therapy dogs accompanied by their owner.
  4. Smoking in the hospital and open flames (e.g. candles) are only permitted in areas specially designated for this purpose and equipped with ashtrays; otherwise, they are prohibited.
  5. The consumption of alcoholic beverages and all drugs and intoxicants is strictly prohibited in all areas of the hospital.
  6. Bringing dangerous objects/weapons onto the premises is strictly prohibited.
  7. Maximum quiet must be maintained in all areas of the hospital. We kindly ask patients and visitors to remain only in the freely accessible areas. Hospital rooms are assigned by the responsible doctor or nursing staff of the ward or by the responsible doctor in the emergency room.
  8. Patients should not leave their rooms during doctors' rounds or during meal, treatment and nursing times.
  9. All patients should remain in their rooms during the night.

B. Visiting

  1. Visiting hours at the bedside are generally from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. If a visit outside these hours is necessary, please discuss this directly with the respective ward, unless the doctor in charge has imposed restrictions in whole or in part.
  2. Persons who are drunk or under the influence of drugs may be denied access.
  3. Visitors who are suffering from an acute infectious disease or who live in a household where such diseases are present are not permitted to enter the hospital.
  4. The behaviour of visitors or third parties must not cause any disturbance, obstruction or danger to patients, staff or other persons throughout the hospital premises.
  5. The number of visitors present in the hospital room may be limited.
  6. Visits to infection areas and rooms are only possible after prior registration and with medical permission. Visitors must put on the protective clothing provided and wear it until they leave, if this is specified by the doctor or necessary from a nursing perspective.
  7. Children under the age of 14 should only visit patients when accompanied by an adult.
  8. Potted plants may not be brought into the hospital rooms.

C. Hospital facilities

  1. Patients are not permitted to move or replace furniture and fittings or to operate treatment equipment independently. The connection of private electrical household appliances, e.g. heaters, hotplates, kettles, air conditioners, etc., is not permitted. Only private devices used for personal hygiene, such as electric razors, hairdryers, hair dryer hoods and massage devices, are permitted.
  2. The use of private radios, music players and similar devices is permitted with the consent of the other patients concerned. Instructions from hospital staff must be followed in such cases.
  3. If the hospital stores patients' money or valuables in a safe, the hospital administration will issue a confirmation in the form of a patient property list, which must be presented upon return.
  4. When using the hospital facilities and equipment, patients and visitors must behave in a manner that ensures the safety and order of hospital operations, their own safety and consideration for others.

D. Traffic on hospital grounds, parking facilities

  1. Begging, advertising, selling goods, performances, events, distributing brochures and flyers, and party political activities, e.g. distributing election posters or party political flyers, are strictly prohibited on the entire hospital grounds, including the car parks. Exceptions require the approval of the hospital management.
  2. The provisions of the Road Traffic Regulations (StVO) apply on hospital grounds. Vehicles may only be parked in the designated spaces in accordance with the information signs posted. Roller skating, skateboarding and similar activities, as well as any use of airspace (e.g. model aeroplanes, drones, kites) are not permitted on hospital grounds.

E. Fire hazard, emergency

In the event of a fire hazard or other emergency, the instructions given by hospital staff must be followed without fail. Defensive measures must not be obstructed. The current fire safety regulations apply.

G. Support and pastoral care

The hospital chaplaincy is available for pastoral care discussions.

Our volunteer patient assistants offer small assistance within the scope of their possibilities. Request a visit from the hospital chaplaincy and the volunteer patient assistants via the ward.

H. Photography, filming, media

  1. The hospital is not a public space, but a protected and sheltered space. Special legal provisions apply here: the Hamburg Hospital Act, the General Data Protection Regulation, other data protection provisions and Section 201a of the German Criminal Code (violation of personal privacy). It is therefore prohibited to photograph or film patients without their prior consent – this also applies if the recordings are to be anonymised afterwards. Different standards apply to patient interviews and recordings on hospital grounds and in hospital buildings than in public. It cannot be assumed that a patient is in a position to exercise their right to object to a recording (or an interview). The after-effects or influence of anaesthesia or other medication, or a lack of legal capacity for other reasons, must always be taken into account in the clinic.
  2. Photo, audio or video recordings intended for commercial purposes or for publication are only permitted with the prior approval of the hospital management or the press office. This also applies to recordings made by patients or their relatives. Such recordings are also prohibited without prior approval (exception see 3. below).
  3. Photography and filming – including with mobile phones or other mobile devices – is strictly prohibited in all facilities for reasons of data protection and the protection of personal rights.
  4. For the reasons stated above, journalists are not permitted to visit the hospital, the hospital grounds or hospital patients without prior authorisation for the purpose of research or reporting. Requests for filming or interviews must be addressed to the corporate communications department.
  5. For security reasons, video surveillance cameras are installed in various designated areas of our hospital. They serve to protect patients, visitors, employees and property.

I. Responsibilities

The powers of the house rules are exercised by the management, the responsible doctors and nursing staff, and by authorised employees, e.g. the security service. Exceptions to these house rules are granted by the clinic management.

J. Violations

Violations of the house rules will generally result in a warning. In the event of repeated or gross violations, the patients concerned may be discharged and visitors and other persons may be expelled from the hospital and, if necessary, banned from the premises. Violations will generally be reported to the police. This applies in particular if a justified request to leave the hospital or hospital grounds is not complied with.

We reserve the right to assert claims for damages, in particular in the event of culpable damage to hospital property.

K. Prohibited and dangerous items, e.g. weapons

Bringing dangerous items/weapons and dangerous chemicals onto the premises is strictly prohibited.

L. Alcohol and drugs

In all areas of the hospital

M. Smoking ban

Smoking is strictly prohibited in all buildings. Smoking is also strictly prohibited on the premises. Exceptions are the designated smoking areas.
