Help in emergencies
Do you need help in the event of a serious accident – someone is seriously or even critically injured? Or do you need help because someone is suddenly experiencing severe symptoms and you are concerned for their life, for example if you suspect a heart attack or stroke? Then don't hesitate...
... and call the emergency services on 112. The emergency control centre will then alert the necessary emergency services for you.
Relevant questions to ask when making an emergency call:
- Where did the incident occur?
- What happened?
- How many people are affected?
- What type of illness/injury/damage is involved?
- Wait for further questions! (Do not end the call without being asked to do so!)
- (Who is reporting?)
Help with minor complaints/minor accidents
Walk-in clinics/emergency clinics
If you have minor health problems, please call the central number for registered doctors: 116 117.
There you will receive the help you need quickly and easily. Specially trained staff will make an initial assessment, refer you to a doctor's surgery or, outside of consultation hours, refer you to an emergency surgery (‘emergency practice’) of the medical on-call service near your place of residence/holiday destination.
At the Husum Clinic, the walk-in-clinic is located on the 2nd floor. At the Niebüll Clinic, you will find the walk-in-clinic with a separate entrance on the ground floor.
Examples of minor illnesses include:
- Cold symptoms (without severe breathing difficulties)
- Mild, short-lived abdominal pain
- Feeling unwell
- Pain that has been present for a long time

What illnesses/injuries are treated in a hospital emergency department?
Life-threatening injuries and illnesses, such as
- schwere Unfälle
- Herzinfarkte
- Schlaganfälle
Illnesses that can lead to a life-threatening situation, such as
- severe shortness of breath
- heart problems
- loss of consciousness
- paralysis
- severe abdominal pain
- heavy bleeding wounds
The emergency department also treats
- broken bones
- dislocated joints
- work accidents
- shortness of breath
For milder cases with
- cold symptoms (without severe shortness of breath)
- mild, short-lived abdominal pain
- feelings of discomfort
- pain that has been present for a long time,
the emergency room of a hospital is not the right place for treatment.
In these cases, please consult your family doctor or a walk-in clinic of the Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians. Advice and assessment of the situation can also be obtained by calling 116 117.
Info: Accidents at work, school and on the way to work
For accidents at work, school and on the way to work, all four locations of the hospital have so-called ‘D-Arzt-Ambulanzen’ (emergency rooms for accidents at work), where those affected can receive outpatient treatment. In addition, the Husum Clinic participates in the so-called ‘Verletzungsartenverfahren’ (injury type procedure) and the Niebüll Clinic participates in the inpatient ‘Durchgangsarztverfahren’ (accident insurance consultant procedure) of the German Social Accident Insurance (DGUV), so that serious occupational and school accidents are treated on an inpatient basis in both hospitals.
